Like mother like daughter

Aunt Rachel left this past Saturday to head back to the Bronx. Ella got to have a big girl day with Auntie Rae all by herself the day before she left. They went to the movie theatre to see Brave. I was at work and Maya stayed home with Daddy.

Today I had a day off and the family spent the day relaxing inside for most of the day due to the extreme heat. I did take Maya and Ella around the block on our bikes (Maya's first time with her new bike!) It was 103 degrees out and not much shade. Maya did great! XO We then cooled off with the kiddie pool and the hose for a bit.

As you can see from the above photo, when Ella Grace gets bored she looses her mind a tad. The picture does not quite do this situation justice as Ella looks like she just stepped out of a Girls gone bad video with her arms 'sleeved' with tats she swiped from her sister (used almost all with out asking)

The best part and most humbling thing of all this for me is that Ella decided (yes I am well aware that most every child does this at ELLA'S age) to give herself a hair cut today. Thank the Lord for her beautiful curls as we can disguise it a bit, but up close she looks like a cross between Mufasa from the Lion King and George Jefferson.

After a stern lecture from her father about never cutting anything other than paper for the rest of her years, I had to crack a few jokes, make light of it and could not stop laughing. Ella did not appreciate my humor to say the least, so I felt obligated to share a story from my past that to this day is a tad raw. :/

When I was 11, (yes 5 1/2 years OLDER than Ella) I decided to do the exact same thing and gave myself the exact same haircut. Some of the other big differences besides the obvious age gap, is that I was a 6th grader at Sacred Heart Catholic school and I was about to make my confirmation and have my school photos taken.

Needless to say the ridicule I endured at the hands of my 'friends' was merciless. So I concocted a story to get them to back off a bit and maybe just maybe have a tad bit of sympathy for my plight. I told them that I got gum in my hair and my mom had to cut it out. (Completely untrue) Turns out one of my closest friends whom I have since reconnected with via Facebook after all of these years still remembers this scenario and not too long ago was busting on me about it.

So being the selfless mother that I am I went to the basement and dug out the most humiliating photo I believe ever taken of me and showed it to Ella to make her feel better about her situation. My 6th grade school picture all 5x7 of it.

The best take away from it all? The girls both looked at the picture and exclaimed, forget the hair, what is wrong with your face!?!

Oh girls thats called puberty and its a whole nother story, we'll save that one for a few years down the road. LOL

Motherhood. Nothing beats it. XOXOXO

Meemie's 4th Birthdaypalooza!

What a spectacular day Maya Elizabeth had for her 4th birthday! We started bright and early at 9 am going to a new park with a splash pad. It was beautiful weather. We had Krispy Kremes and opened presents with all of our best buddies.

After a few hours of fun we headed home so Maya, Ella & Aunt Rachel could make the birthday cake. Maya requested yellow cake with pink frosting. I didn't get any pictures of the cake making because Mommy was taking a well deserved nap!

The girls played with all of Maya's new toys and then they took a nap and Mommy frosted the cake while daddy cut strawberries to place around it for decoration.

The was definately a cake made with special love as all of us had our hand in it!

At 7pm everyone came back including some neighbors for pizza, cake, icecream and fireworks! Maya had a birthday like a rockstar and we love her so very much!
